Mazda, of course, was happy with its 2012 model, but now the company is working hard to produce the 2014 MX-5, and rumor is that they will make this Miata turbo. In order to improve power, the designers apparently plan to go back to basics by decreasing the model’s weight drastically. They also want to fit the 2014 MX-5 with a more powerful engine. Having already tested several options it looks like they will have to make the new Miata turbo in order to get the required extra power.

A naturally aspirated four-cylinder 1.5-liter that uses Skyactiv technology has already proven under-powered and will not provide what the MX-5 needs. The company next tried a 2.0-liter version, which was better in terms of performance, although its fuel efficiency was a let down. It is possible that a 1.8-liter four-cylinder version could be the answer, balancing the need for power with decent fuel economy, but most think it’s more likely Mazda will make the Miata turbo.

If Mazda does go the turbo route it is likely they will opt for a 1.3-liter turbo-charged engine. The company aims to produce an MX-5 Miata turbo with at least 150 horsepower and a 10% increase in fuel economy over the 2012 model. A Miata turbo with better fuel economy than the 2012 model would likely be one of the most popular generations of the MX-5, helping the brand to maintain its reputation. If Mazda can indeed create a Miata turbo with improved gas mileage they would be beating an already impressive 22 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

The four-door mid-size sedan is fitted with a SkyActiv-D 2.2L, four-cylinder, low-compression diesel engine that will increase fuel economy by 20 percent while decreasing emissions, and is estimated to bring 42 miles per gallon for highway driving. Your Mazda6 Diesel also boasts the fastest restart of all automatic engine shutdown programs. During extended stops, Mazda’s cutting-edge ‘i-Stop’ (idling stop system) will shut down the engine, and with just a touch to the accelerator, will restart the motor in 0.4 seconds.

There is much about the Mazda6 Diesel that is driven towards fuel economy. Along with the SkyActiv technologies, this model will also feature Mazda’s regenerative braking system – ‘I-ELOOP’ (Intelligent Energy Loop).The system works whereby kinetic energy released under braking is transferred to your 12-25 variable voltage alternator. This energy is then stored in an electric capacitor and DC/DC converter, where the energy is reduced from 25 volts to 12 volts before being used to power your Mazda6′s electrical components (audio, air-conditioning and lighting) as well as charging the vehicle’s battery.

With the ‘i-Stop’ and ‘i-ELOOP’ working in tandem, your Mazda6 Diesel reduces fuel consumption by up to ten percent. Drive hasn’t been sacrificed in the Mazda6, with a tighter steering ratio, high-tech transmission, and increased torque. Mazda’s latest Sky-Drive six-speed automatic transmission is faster and much lighter than previous models, while the six-speed manual now has a shorter shift-stroke, both of which give you greater driver-control.

The Mazda3 has been a great car and with the newly designed engine the 2012 model is even better. It’s popularity isn’t a mere coincidence, it has many qualities that can put it ahead of competition.
