2013 Mazda CX-5 Achieves 35MPG Highway – Best in Class

Car company Mazda has released the official EPA rating for the upcoming 2013 Mazda CX5. The vehicle, which is front-wheel drive and has a six-speed manual transmission, has been rated for 26 miles per gallon in the city and up to 35 mpg on the highway. This is an impressive fuel economy for a car in the SUV class, and Mazda owes this to their innovative Skyactiv-G direct-injection 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve inline four engine. The economic Mazda CX5 engine produces 155 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 150 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The Mazda CX5 is also one of the lightest SUV crossovers in its class, weighing in at just over 3,200 pounds. The economic front-wheel drive manual transmission model comes with a 14.8-gallon gas tank that takes regular unleaded gasoline. Given optimum highway driving conditions, the Mazda CX5 fuel economy means a single tank of fuel can last for over 500 miles. It’s not just the manual version that has reasonable fuel economy, the automatic front-wheel drive version also has figures of 26/32 mpg. The all-wheel drive automatic version, which has a slightly larger tank, also offers an impressive 25 mpg in the city and 31 mpg fuel economy on the highway.
